CHRISTER LINDARW – WHAT A LIFE!

“The King of Queen”, Christer Lindarw, born on March 3, 1953 in Eskilstuna, has just turned 72 years old. Already in a young year, he performed in the folk parks in Södermanland with singing and entertainment. As a 19-year-old, he moved to Stockholm and trained as a designer at Beckmans.

The interest in drag shows was announced and on the recommendation of revue artist Roger Jönsson, he got a transvestite role in 1976. At Alexandra Charles on Biblioteksgatan there was a stage debut in “Wild Side Story” as Zsa Zsa Shakespeer.

Christer and Roger Jönsson together with Lasse Flinckman formed the drag show group “After Dark” and opened their own nightclub with the same name on David Bagare’s street in Stockholm. TV recorded the performance in 1978 and 1980, it was time for the big breakthrough on the Hamburger Stock Exchange. Later, there were guest games in Madrid for 8 months in 1983, 6 months in San Fransisco and 4 months at Lake Tahoe in 1987. After Dark ended his long career in 1996-98 with a Sweden tour with special shows at the Stock Exchange in Stockholm, Rondo in Gothenburg and Admiralen in Malmö. Final with two sold out Globes 1998

Lindarw and Flinckman as After Dark took home third place in the Melody Festival 2004 with the song “La Dolce Vita”. Christer participated in “Stars at the Castle” in SVT 2011-2012.

Christer has become well known as a clothing designer and was behind many of After Dark’s creations. The appearance was big when Lill Lindfors lost his custom-made dress during the Eurovision Song Contest 1985 in Gothenburg – an idea designed by Christer Lindarw.

Christer Lindarw has received numerous awards and was inducted into the Radio Nostalgia Hall of Fame on October 28, 2019.

The location was the Oscar Theater in Stockholm 1977 during the After Dark drag show when Christer Lindarw imitated Queen Silvia and after the performance handed a rose to the queen who sat with King Carl Gustaf in the royal lodge.

And now on Saturday, May 31, Christer is celebrated in the program What Life! on TV4 at noon. 20.00 of, among others, Queen Silvia, who repays with a rose.
